Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) operates Community Music Programs in British Columbia and Alberta, serving close to 1,200 children and youth who would otherwise not have access to music education.
At SoM, we believe that everyone has the right and ability to make, create and enjoy their own music, and that active music-making should be encouraged and supported at all ages and abilities.
SoM’s vision is to transform lives through the power of music. We do this by building communities where kids can experience connection, mentorship, and personal growth through equitable access to supportive, creative, and inclusive musical learning and expression.
For us, accessible, equitable and barrier-free means SoM is free-of-charge for all students. SoM receives no government funding, and Sarah personally covers 100% of administrative costs each year, so that all donations go directly to SoM’s transformative community music programs, and the young artists who access them.
