Reviews for this Album

I have listened to your music since the day of your first album. When I was a child, I would hear Vox tune in, over the radio, and it overjoyed me. Although my father turned the station, I fought to hear it every time. My most memorable album is Surfacing. I believe it to be your crowning achievement; full of joy, sadness, and mysticism; every album since has been difficult to evolve in the same way. In my evolution as a person, I found your music profoundly inspirational. In saying this, I wish to hear your continued transcendence of experience and hope for continued rebirth of the music that I have always deemed , " A time when I could release my sadness and find joy in it."

Love the sound always! so inspirational in so many ways!

Laws of Illusion follow laws of love.
illusion is false
love is true.

Love this album! And the cover is absolutely beautiful! Thank you

I do listen this LoI everyday, specially, I love the beautiful "Love Come" too much. thanks, Sarah. it's just all I can say. Take care!

The lyrics to the song "Awakening" from the CD Laws of Illusion are absolutly brilliant, her brutal heartfelt words express sadness, loss, acceptence and hope in a way that no other song writer in my opinion can match!

Hi, Dear Sarah.

This album is wonderfull, I love your songs and your voice. My favoryte records is the FTE, but this your new album "Laws Of Illusion" is beautifull. I love all the songs. Come on to Brazil. This Country adore your musics. We`re waiting for you. The Brazil "loving you easy". God blessed you.

Letíçia

My favorite songs from Laws of Illusion are: Awakenings (it rocks!), Illusion of Bliss, Heartbreak, and Don't Give Up On Us

Ofcourse, the melodies on all the songs are awesome! And I love that Laws of Illusion is a little more upbeat in production than previous albums. I'm anxious to hear the songs live because I know I'll like it even more, but you've shafted the southeast US! Please come to southwest VA or NC!

Sarah, I love the whole album - there isn't one song I skip!
The song that resonates with me is Bring on the Wonder.
My life has been like that for over a year now - a bit worn out and numb.
There are times, then, that something joyful happens, or a prayer comes easy, or I go to the beach and feel that re-centered connection and feeling alive.
It also speaks to the celtic side of my personality.

I pray you continue to have the inspiration and the words that refresh the rest of us.
Thank you, Bless you, and I surely hope to attend a concert of yours before too much longer. I would move to Canada if I thought I could find work - that might make it easier! : )

Hey Ms Mclachlan,
I have been a fan for eleven years, really loving Surfacing so much that I listened to it most days, more so over the past two years than ever before. I related via your lyrics and your music things that were happening in my life at that time - I guess in no uncertain terms it gave me a sort, or a kind of solace during a really tough, difficult and emotionally disturbing period of my life. The power and the meaning contained throughout this album, and I suppose my own interpretation of what you were singing about, really hit home with certain songs. I guess we can relate each of us individually and form our own interpretations of your music, and this is what music is essentially about, no?

Laws of Illusion is another good album, but I would argue that your first three records are the best in lots of ways. My favourite track from Laws of Illusion however would be the piano version of Love Come - again its a powerful, emotional song, and it does 'light up the shadows' when I listen...x

Hi Sarah,

Forgiveness is my favorite song on this album. Thank you for your music. Smile.

I have enjoyed all of Sarah's albums from her forever giving career. I have lived a life that can only be described as enhanced by listening to her songs. Yet, we all know that life is never perfect and certain setbacks...failures, happen. I can truely say that Sarah's musical work has always put me back on track. This is especially true with her "Laws of Illusion" album. The past 2 years in my life have been very painful, and all the songs had a special place in my being, but "Love Come" is my favorite. Actually, I think "Love Come" is the most beautiful song I have ever heard...Sarah's or anybody's. It gives me a hope that I wish everyone gets from listening to it. Love is a gift, one that everyone deserves, but it can only be given...not taken. I have hope for love in my future, and I owe it to Sarah for reminding me of it each and everytime I experience that song. Thank you so much Sarah!!

great album!

Sarah I discovered your music when I was in High School, back in the late 90's. It wasn't up until this year that I truly discovered your music though. This past year was truly the most trying and hardest year of my life and your music got me through it all. The lyrics to your songs seemed to be what I was going threw in my own life, and for a moment while I was listening to your songs I was able to escape my own hurt and sadness. I got to see you perform live for the first time ever back in January while you were visiting Pittsburgh and to describe it I would have to say truly amazing. I thought you were amazing on CD, but seeing you perform live..wow..what a great way to spend an evening. You are truly talented and for me personally your music has touched my soul. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. Hope to see you again sometime in Pennsylvania : )

I am an Indian, so i was able to hear your musics only recently. i accidentally came across your song 'in the arms of the angel' . I can't express my joy after hearing that song. it was truly amazing. it refreshes me every time i hear it. almost everyday i play that song at least once now a days.

Thank you for gifting this world such a wonderful song..that is truly amazing amazing..................

hi
sarah the arms of an ANGEL is the best song, i can listen to that song over and over, and you know all the song you wrote are beautiful, songs that come from your heart, you know the creator has made an ANGEL outta you. the eyes of an ANGEL is what the creator gave you, you hit a lot of peoples heart with your music. Smile your music hits me like a ton of bricks all the time, its heart warming and it can put a tear to my eyes at time, you are among the creators creations, one that walks the earth warming the wounded hearts and bringing the love back in to there lives."" you must love yourself to be able to love other "" is what i always tell others...i hope to see you some day live playing your music..and listening to the ANGEL play ANGEL...you are blessed sarah

thanks

Sarah... you are magical.
Thank you for your music.

LOVE this album!!!!

After hearing this CD Live on Tour..... take away the overmixing... its riviting to hear.
Puts a whole new take on your experience of it.

Dear Ms. McLachlan,
I am embarrassed by the rudeness of the AZ writer. Keep singing and speaking your mind at concerts. Whether I agree or not with your politics is irrelevant. Your music is still divine! The freedom to speak our mind is a right in this country-one you have too. Your message of compassion is a welcomed one and helps balance the hate that seems to abound in USA....perhaps especially in AZ
Thanks for a wonderful concert and keep the music coming.
Gail

Finally, something interesting by Sarah McLachlan

I've been a huge Sarah fan most of my life, and honestly thought everything since Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been a little bit of a let down. I'll never understand why Surfacing was Sarah's Opus as I regard it as perhaps her least inspired disc (perhaps due to the fact that it was overplayed TO DEATH by everyone and their dog). Afterglow was a nice solid progression, with excellent lyrics, but I always felt it was too 'one flavour', though it was tasty.

With Laws of Illusion, Sarah gives us a few surprises! The horrible break-up from her husband obviously gave her excellent emotional fodder to carve out the tracks on this disc. Unfortunately I still find myself longing for the Sarah McLachlan of yore (FTE & Solace) and Laws of Illusion doesn't quite deliver on the lyrical front. Her voice indeed delivers in spades, and the music is new and engaging (and more upbeat!) but some of the lyrics are a bit trite and cliché when you pick them apart. For example how many times have lines almost exactly like this appeared in some song: 'I've been down a long road / I shout it from the rooftops / You light me up you take me higher / Now every time I see you I can't help but look away / I don't care what people say I'm ready now to face this day . . .' ?

Regardless of this these lyrics still work and for most of the rest of the songs are great at delving up imagery and emotion. Awakenings, Love Come and Heartbreak are stand-outs tracks for me. Her cover of Bring On the Wonder, while not written by her, is another favourite.

The big surprises come with the actual Music! It's a breakup record for sure, but it's upbeat and positive. The overall tempo of this album is much quicker than I was expecting too. There's a cadence to this disc that was lacking on Afterglow. The positively happy, if corny, lead single "Loving You is Easy" doesn't sound like anything the Sarah McLachlan of yore would have ever done. It sounds like a Randy Newman tribute, but it works (I feel like I shouldn't like it, but I do)!
This is a feel-good CD that showcases both Sarah's innocence and maturity.

I will probably always think Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is her best album, and Solace will always be my personal favourite, but Laws of Illusion is right up there as another great Sarah CD. Finally. Thank you Sarah!

What a great album! I Love it..... Now we're waiting a concert in BRAZIL. Hopefully this happening as soon as possible.

Dear Sarah
Once again kind regards from France
Listening your album again and again this Week-end....

I really love "Awakening". I don't think that's a random choice;
"With shooting stars and hopeful hearts our worlds collide"
"And so we rushed to fill each other in"
And for awhile the magic took"

Oh...I wanna learn, I wanna know...
Will our history crush us or can we let it go"

I think i could have written this song, the lyrics are really beautiful, the song perfect;
No need to be a woman to live this kind of experiment. A man can too...

"Bring on the wonder" is very nice too "I push you down deep in my soul for to long"
I improve my english thanks to you...

But, but i put this time only three stars because I analyse more carefully your lyrics => all the songs speak of love, love... well there is not only love in live, most of us know mainly hard work, difficulties, illness => struggle for live.
Struggle for life and love are the two faces of the life +> may be you could explore this first part...
The disk of you my children love over all the others is "Rarities and Other stuffs" with different musical experiments, different thema....
I'm writing this only to help you and to improve...

Once again Kind regard From France
And in 2012 I hope I can go in canada or USA to listen you if don't come in Europe.

Emmanuel

Dear Sarah...
Kinds regards from France and I apologize for my english which is not very good.

You know of course who is Lilith in apocryphal versions of the bible. The first wife of Adam who wanted to be equal to him and leave the paradise With good and bad sides=> very interesting that you have chosen this name for your tour...Are you a Lilith or an Eva woman?

Well I'm jocking...

More seriously all your albums are a pleasure to listen and to understand too as the lyrics are very well written,.. It's always an emotion and a pleasure to read and understand what you want to express in your songs => and I found myself in the situation you described in certain songs
as "fear".

"I have so much to lose here in this lonely place
Tangled up in our embrace
There's nothing I'd like better than to fall
But I fear, I have nothing to give
But I fear, I have so much to lose"

When do you come in Europe??? The old continent is waiting for you and France is an interessant place for artistic experiements => we are at the heart of the New Europe which is in building and which will never surrender and forget her culture...I hope...

Emmanuel

..

I think Laws of Illusion is a great album but I'm just very disappointed that none of the singles (Loving You is Easy or Forgiveness or any future singles from the album) was released as a commercial CD singles for fans.

what a great album!!

I love Sarah! Her music sends me to the depths of my soul instantaneously! Thank you. Please never stop making and writing the music that is such an amazing gift to us all.

Sarah,
You are an Angel without wings put here on Earth to bring Joy and Happiness to us mere mortals.

I like it more and more with each listening. Just amazingly beautiful lyrics and melodies - wonderful textures and allusions. Haunting. She is a most special talent.

Colorful allure in it's haunting state...blended touches of previous memories (albums) wash on shore to her latest effort. Spellbound...captivated..a must for everyone who is a deep souled individual.

First time I listened to it and watched the dvd I thought: Beautiful album, but doesn't seem to add something new to her others
After a week I listened to it again, and said: let's listen to it again... and again, and every time I listen I Like it more. Is not a first-listening album but one you can listen to after years (I guess, of course) and like each time more (see Fumbling Towards Ecstasy)
The best songs are from Love Come to the end of the album
(Bring on the wonder).. but the others I think will like more and more with time

I still will always love the song I WILL NOT FORGET YOU.
Good thing I have it on CD since to my knowledge Sarah doesn't do it anymore in concert or elsewhere.

BEAUTIFUL! This cd touches the soul...just as many of yours b4!.

I'm sorry I bought this album. I've wasted my money. I will NEVER again attend any concert or buy any merchandise from Ms. McLachlan. ARIZONA'S LAW IS THE SAME AS THE ALREADY EXISTING FEDERAL LAW. MS. MCLACHLAN, YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE. YOU DON'T LIVE ON THE BORDER AND HAVE TO SUFFER. 70+% OF AMERICANS SUPPORT THE ARIZONA LAW AND OTHER STATES WILL FOLLOW. GO HOME.

I am quite impressed with this album. As always, Sarah never disappoints you.

The music is relaxing, Its a soft one, you enjoy listening to it and can hear it anytime.

Her voice is the greatest part. Its magical, soothing and a treat for the ears.

Last but not the least, the entire album is SWEET, SENSUAL AND SOULFUL

Now that I have this CD in my collection, my one word to sum it up is, outstanding.

I've always been a fan of Sarah McLachlan's music. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been one of my favorite albums for a long time. When I heard about her upcoming new album, I was very excited to hear it. I was given a copy of the album by the One 2One Network to review.

Laws of Illusion didn't disappoint me at all. It's poetic and rhythmic and full of the beautiful melodies we expect from Sarah McLachlan. This is not a one-sided album. The album is full of upbeat pop songs and lovely ballads. My favorite tracks include Forgiveness, Out of Tune and Love Come, but it really is a wonderful album straight through. "Loving You is Easy" is a great, catchy pop song and a perfect choice for the album's first single. I also love that the album comes with a lyric book. I've always been drawn to Sarah McLachlan's lyrics and I really enjoyed following along as I listened.

Whether you have been a fan for years, or if you are new to Sarah McLachlan, you won't be able to deny her gorgeous voice and wonderful songwriting. Give this album a listen, I bet you'll love it like I did!

As per FTC guidelines, I must state that I was given a copy of the CD in exchange for review from "One2One Network". My opinions are my own, and the free cd did not influence my opinions, either positively or negatively .

I love this CD I am so glad that sarah has wrote the song forgiveness. Love you sarah

PJ

Dear Sarah, I really love this album¡ I agree with a previous review which says that every time we listen to your voice we fall in love again. No one can deny your words , your message and the purity of your voice comes from within and inspire us. Thanks for sharing your gift with us and go on like this. I couldnt have the opportunity to meet you in Barcelona as the show was cancelled. If you ever return to Spain again, be sure i´ll try to meet you there.

Lots of love

The album is perfect!!!!
I'm so happy that I found so many brazilian fans here. Please, come to Brazil to show your beautiful songs.
We need your albums to be released over here....

Sarah you have the voice of an angel. I will never forget the first time I ever heard you live. I remember you were performing with the Chieftains. It was an incredibly great night of celebrating friendship, freedom, my youth and my irish heritage! I shared that night with a dear friend. We have since gone our separate ways but will always be connected to that magical night in the open skies with you and the ticket stub that remains in my jewelry chest. You have no idea how your music/lyrics have held me together through the years when everything around me seemed to be coming apart at the seams. Your music evokes a stirring in my soul that is attached to so many events in my life. I love singing with you on my journeys back home to see my family. The passion and thought in your lyrics makes my blood rush like a tsunami in my heart. Thank you for embracing Gods gift and being a beautiful vessel of his handiwork. Take good care and I look forward to another enchanting evening with you @ the lilith fair in wash dc this fall - Your new album is an extension of you - full of life and soul - Sincerely, TH

Dear Sarah,

I'm so happy that you've release a new album after so long!!!
I'm also happy to see that other Brazilians are found of your music, as much as I'm.
So PLEASE COME TO BRAZIL, and help me to make one of my oldest dream come true ... To see you perform live in our country.

PS: I loved the Album Cover ...

Once again Sarah touches us with her thoughtful lyrics and siren voice. I personally feel although the tempo is still soothingly sarah, the lyrics are a bit less meloncholy on the majority of the songs. I guess that is due to her being in a really good place in her life with love and motherhood taking the stage for the last few years. I downloaded the album from itunes 6/15/10 cuz I couldn't wait lol but i plan to get the hard copy as well. Sarah, thank you for this long awaited new album! Its a beautiful poetic masterpiece as always. My 13 year old son who loves metal and plays guitar loves it also. His ipod lulls him to sleep everynight with your music. Usually mirrorball and afterglow but he now has this album added to the playlist!

Hi Sarah, i just wanna say that france loves you too. come to see us very soon. Love XXX
