In 2002, The Sarah McLachlan Foundation launched its first school, Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach – An Arts Umbrella Project, in Vancouver’s inner city, offering students free music instruction in guitar, piano, percussion and choir.
This innovative program reaches over 200 students, grades four through 12, offering instructional classes, practice rooms, and a media lab for them to creatively express themselves. The school provides an inspiring, secure place where students go to learn, practice, and connect with friends.
Students acquire a life-long appreciation of music, and enthusiasm for learning, but most importantly, Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach offers a nurturing environment where young people learn important life skills, are free to explore their creative potential and develop peer connections that will last a lifetime.
